2023 Japan Visa Guide for Filipinos

Important Updates:

  • September 27 : Effective on October 11, Japan welcomes visitors who are fully vaccinated with a booster shot, from all WHO-approved vaccine brands. Visitors without vaccines or have invalid vaccine records are required to take a pre-flight COVID test.

  • October 4 : Starting October 11, ERFS visas are no longer required to enter and visit Japan. Multiple-entry visas issued pre-pandemic are now valid again.

  • April 12: Entrants are no longer required to submit proof of vaccination or negative COVID test result starting May 8.

Document Requirements


All applicants are required to submit the following documents:

1. Japan Visa Application Form

  • Forms must be type-written and hand-signed

  • Forms must be printed on A4 size paper

  • All areas that have no answer or is not applicable, please put "N/A" in the space. The embassy will not accept forms with blanks

  • For Multiple-entry Visa,

  • Fill out Multiple-entry Request Form, check items that apply, and fill in reason for request

2. One (1) piece of Passport-size colored picture with white background

  • Taken within the last 6 months

  • Write applicant's name and birthdate at the back side of the pictures

  • No eyeglasses, headbands, caps, etc.

3. Original Philippine Passport

  • Valid for at least 6 months prior to departure date

  • Broken passport is not accepted

  • Must be signed and have at least two (2) blank visa pages

4. Day to Day Itinerary in Japan

5. Original PSA Birth Certificate

  • Valid within one (1) year of issuance

  • If late registered, kindly insert Original Baptismal Certificate and Form 137 from School

  • No need if with used Japan visa already

  • Required if traveling as family to prove relationship

6. Original PSA Marriage Certificate, if married

  • Valid within one (1) year of issuance

  • One certificate per couple applying together

  • No need if with used Japan visa already

  • Required if traveling as family to prove relationship

7. Authorization Letter for each applicant

  • Print and fill in Date, Name and Signature, Passport Number, and Contact Number only

FOR EMPLOYEES

8. Original Certificate of Employment

  • Including applicant's positions, date hired, compensation, office address, company header, and HR landline and e-mail address

9. Original Bank Certificate

  • Validity is three (3) months from date of issue

  • Indicating the account type, balance, account opening date, and Average Daily Balance

10. Original or Certified True Copy of Bank Statement for the last 3 months

11. Income Tax Return (photocopy) or Form 2316

  • Should contain the signature of employers

How do I claim my passport?

You can pick-up your passport in our office or have it sent back via courier or any real-time delivery service. Check with our Visa Officer if your passport is ready for pick-up.

How soon should I apply for Japan visa?

We encourage you to apply within 3 months before your trip.


Can I appeal if my visa is denied?

The Japan Embassy does not accept appeal for refused visa.


When can I re-apply if my visa is denied?

You may re-apply after 6 months from the date of denial.



Important reminders before you submit your application

  • Attach a letter of explanation for documents that cannot be submitted.

  • Family should apply at the same time and provide proof of relationship: These must be original PSA documents.

  • Apply for visa prior to purchasing your airline tickets and travel services since visa issuance is subject for approval of the consul in charge.

  • Applying through a designated travel agent does not guarantee the issuance of visa.

  • Inform your HR Officer/Contractor/Bank that someone will call or email from the Japan Embassy to validate the documents you provided.
