A Monthly Guide to Seoul, South Korea Weather


South Korea goes through all four seasons and each season has vast changes in weather and temperature. Here’s a month-by-month guide of the weather to expect in Seoul:

WINTER SEASON


The longest season is winter, which runs from December to March. Winters in South Korea are usually cold and dry.

  • December: Winter begins at the end of the year. The temperature ranges from -7°C to 3°C. Make sure to bundle up because the temperature may drop to the negatives once night falls. The month of December is the driest month of the year, with less than 25% chance of rain.

  • January is the coldest month in the year. Temperatures range from -9°C to 0°C. Like the last month, the temperature tends to drop at night and there’s less than 25% chance of rain.

  • February: Continuing through the winter season, February temperatures range from -7°Cto 3°C. The chance of rainfall also drops to 20%.

  • mid-March Its temperatures range from -2°C to 8°C, with less than 25% chance of precipitation. The temperature should begin to rise in preparation for spring.

SPRING SEASON


After winter comes spring, starting in April and ending in June. This is said to be the best time to visit South Korea because the weather is pleasant. Expect sunny days.

  • April is when spring begins. This is usually the time when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Temperatures range from 5°C to 17°C and there is a 30% of rainfall. The sun should be shining more often now that winter is over.

  • May: This month is the middle of spring. It’s temperature ranges from 11°C to 22°C and there is a 27% chance of rain.

  • mid-June: the temperature begins to rise to a 16°C, climbing to as high as 29°C. The chance of wet weather also climbs up to 37%. This signals the start of summer.

SUMMER SEASON


Next is Summer, which runs briefly from mid-June to August. It’s the hottest and most humid time of the year, but also the most precipitous.

  • July: This month is when summer officially begins. The temperature is higher than it has ever been, ranging from 21°C to 29°C. The chance of rain is almost at 60%, so bring an umbrella!

  • August is usually the hottest month of the year. The temperature can grow from 22°C to an unforgiving 31°C. The chance of precipitation, fortunately, drops to around 50%.

The weather is not as hot as July and August so we recommend that you make your trip to Korea in September!


AUTUMN SEASON


Lastly, there’s autumn, which runs from September to November. The South Korea weather is mild during the autumn season. It’s also recommended that tourists visit South Korea during this season.

  • September: Fortunately, the temperature goes back down as autumn begins. It ranges from 15°C to 26°C. The chances of rain also drop to 30%.

  • October: In the middle of autumn, the temperature ranges from 7°C to 11°C. The chance of wet weather drops even lower to 20%.

  • November is the last month of autumn. The temperature can drop to 0°C, or remain more bearable at 11°C. The chance of rainfall is bumped up to 33%. This readies the people for the beginning of winter.
